SPIRIT COMPETITION CHEER TEAMS ~  Spirit Competiton Cheerleading Teams are open to current 2nd - 5th graders (rising 3rd - 6th as of 9/25) and are for those interested in making a strong commitment to cheerleading, developing cheer dance, stunt and tumble skills and being part of a competitive team environment that builds confidence, athleticism and lasting friendships.  Please see details below.

COMPETITION CHEER 2025
Open to current 2nd - 5th grades (rising 3rd - 6th Grades as of 9/25)

  • PRACTICE  starts the week of August 4th and practice will be TWO TIMES a week for the entire season through mid November.   Practices will be between 1 - 2 hours a day/night and there will be scheduled days off during the season as determined by the Directors.   Practice is MANDATORY with a maximum of 2 missed practices during the season.   August Choreography practices are MANDATORY.  Practices will be local in Garden City.  It is not possible to be part of a Spirit Game Day Team and a Spirit Competition Team as practice times will overlap however sideline cheer is included as noted below.

  • PRESEASON CLINICS  in June and July focused on developing stunt, tumble and team bonding.  Dates to be determined. 

  • SIDELINE CHEER  Competition Cheer Teams will sideline cheer at TWO Thunder Football games before competition season starts and as determined by the Directors
  
  • COMPETITIONS start in mid October and run through mid November. Competitions are local in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  Competitions can take place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.  The schedule becomes available in late August/early September.  Spirit plans to compete in 4-5 competitions in the fall.   
Additional Competition Team Information:
  • The Competition Cheer Team Fee includes preseason clinics, summer practices, fall practices, 2 sideline football games, a Spirit practice tank, custom choreography, custom music, competition fees, league fees and a competition bow.   
  • Competition cheer is a 6 month commitment from June - November.
  • The registration does NOT include uniform, footwear, poms and custom apparel.  
  • The uniform is the same as last season for returning cheerleaders.  Uniform fittings will take place April/May for all new members and any returning member who needs a new uniform. All fittings must be finalized by May 31st. 
    • We welcome participants of all levels from beginners to experienced cheerleaders, dancers and gymnasts.  Participants will be evaluated to showcase skills for the benefit of the team.  Grades can be combined at the discretion of the Directors.
